Waste Log Overview
How do I report Pruning Waste?
Best Practices/Troubleshooting Waste Log
What is Pruning Waste?
For compliance integrated facilities pruning waste refers to the plant material removed from plants during defoliation. This is required to be reported weekly by METRC if defoliation occurs within that week and can occur in any growth phase of the plants life cycle. It's required to be reported by location with the total weight of plant material in grams. Trym's solution to this tedious data entry is the Waste Log to report the waste weight totals directly from the Trym mobile app.
What is Trym's Waste Log?
Since METRC's API doesn't allow integrators, like Trym, to report pruning waste. This has forced cultivators to rely on pen+paper or similar approaches to record waste logs throughout their facilities.
The Waste Log allows users of the Trym mobile app to record pruning waste digitally on the Trym app. In turn, Compliance Managers who use Trym will generate and download a CSV file, which will then be uploaded into METRC, saving everyone time and headaches.
How do I report Pruning Waste?
To report the pruning waste of tagged plants against a location you can utilize Trym's Waste Log by following the instructions below:
Report Pruning Waste on Mobile
Log in to the Trym mobile app
Use the Rooms menu to navigate to the room you're reporting waste in
Tap Grow Log and then the + button on the bottom right of your app
Choose "Record Tagged Plant Waste"
Enter the waste log details in the various fields
Click "Report waste to Trym" when satisfied with the waste details
Generate, download, and upload the waste report to METRC
Note: As a general rule, waste should be reported to METRC BEFORE your compliance events are reported. This prevents any conflicts, such as accidentally moving all the plants out of a room before reporting the waste against that room.
A compliance manager or METRC admin logs in to Trym Explore
Click on the new Waste icon in the left side menu
Select either Untagged Plants Waste or Tagged Plants Waste
Click on the "Generate Report" button in the top right hand corner
Limit to 500 rows per file
METRC limits CSV files to 500 rows per file, clicking this button will create new CSV files if they contain more than 500 rows.
Remove header rows
METRC requires no header lines in their CSV files
Once downloaded, log into the relevant METRC license and head into the Data Import section of METRC
Upload the Untagged Plants waste report in the Immature Plants Waste section
Upload the Tagged Plants Waste report in the Plants Waste section

Why is the waste report I am uploading to METRC not working?
Why is my first waste report dating back to longer than a week?
Q: What is the benefit of Trym's Waste Log?
Metrc does not allow any 3rd party integrators to report this type of waste directly, so we made it as easy as possible for you to report pruning waste by offering the use of our Waste Log for all platforms.
This feature allows you to report waste across all plant lifecycles against a specific location, whether you are defoliating a room of individually tagged plants or reporting bulk immature untagged plant destruction waste by location.
Q: Why is the waste report I am uploading to METRC not working?
The ZIP file that is manually generated in your Waste Tab by selecting the "Generate Report" button in Trym Explore, will open as CSV natively on IOS devices. For Windows computers please use your desired file decompression program. We recommend 7-ZIP.
This CSV file as is meets METRC formatting standards, which can be reviewed in the plant waste file upload section of METRC. If the CSV file is opened in excel, numbers or other programs to be edited or just viewed you may run the risk of the file formatting being changed in the process. METRC will provide error alerts for certain formatting issues at the time of upload. This is usually the most common cause for unsuccessful waste report uploading in METRC. The file we provide should not need to be edited if the waste amount was entered correctly in the Trym Mobile Grow App.
If you have made certain the format after editing any info meets Metrc standards and you are still not able to upload the file, please contact Trym Support for additional assistance.
Q: Where do I generate a waste report in Trym Explore?
A: This second step is crucial to completing the reporting process for your pruning waste. Often users will enter the waste amount in the and not generate the report. You can download the waste report from your Waste Tab in Trym Explore, choose untagged or tagged plant reports and then click the "Generate Report" button.
Q: Why is my first waste report dating back to longer than a week?
If this is your first time generating a waste report you may see any waste reported prior to a week from generating the report if waste was reported in the Trym Mobile grow app prior, but a report was never generated. Contact support and we can parse the report and guide you any bets practice needed going forward.
